Springs Window Fashions and Habitat for Humanity Team-up to Make a Difference

Middleton, WI - April 01, 2009
Since 2003, Springs Window Fashions has enjoyed a very special partnership with Habitat for Humanity, a national nonprofit organization that helps finance and build quality homes for low-income families. In only six years, Springs Window Fashions has developed a multifaceted approach to putting families in homes they need, beautiful window treatments included.

Springs Window Fashions first got involved with Habitat for Humanity on the financial level, making incremental contributions needed to build homes in Dane County, Wisconsin. “It's important that we give something back to our community,” said Char Lodl, Springs Window Fashions HR Coordinator. “And knowing our donations made it possible for several local families to get a roof over their heads, that really feels good.”

The next step in Springs' partnership with Habitat for Humanity came later in 2003, when Springs employees joined Habitat for Humanity and a chosen family to help in the hands-on construction of a new home. “Employees donated part of their vacation time, and Springs matched it with paid time,” said Lodl. “That way, everyone involved gets to experience giving and receiving,” she added. Since 2003, Springs employees have continued to participate in the building of Dane County homes.

When a home is complete, Springs helps Habitat for Humanity add the perfect finishing touch: window treatments that are both beautiful and practical. Since 2005, Springs has donated all the window treatments for every Habitat for Humanity home built in Dane County. Typical window treatment donations include:

  • Energy-efficient Cellular Shades to help lower energy bills
  • Durable Aluminum Blinds that really last
  • Cordless shades in children's rooms and play areas to improve safety

So far, Springs has made financial contributions totaling $225,000, supplied employee labor to build three homes and provided Bali® and Graber® window treatments for almost 80 homes. Though 2009 promises to be a challenging year for everyone, Springs Window Fashions plans to continue its partnership with Habitat for Humanity. In addition to continuing to provide window treatments for every Habitat for Humanity home built in Dane County, many of the company's current and retired employees have already donated their personal time to help build new homes. “We're really renewing our commitment to volunteerism,” said Char Lodl. “When someone gives their own time, you can't put a dollar value on that.”
